FLORIDA KEYS CHILDREN’S
SHELTER HURRICANE IRMA
On September 23, 2017, I was scheduled to travel to Key West to play a football game. The game was cancelled as Hurricane Irma was approaching the Keys. Although my community was spared, the destruction caused by the hurricane was beyond imagination. If I could not play in the Keys, at least I could help the kids in the Keys. I distributed collection boxes throughout three counties and with the help of the local media was able to collect thousands of dollars worth of sporting goods and toys which I donated to the Florida Keys Children’s Shelter. Through their network in the Keys, they distributed the items to the areas most in need.
